Is the Rescue Organization You are Donating to a Federal or State 501(c)(3)?

Every Federal and State 501(c)(3) Organization has a FEIN from the Internal Revenue Service. The Manes and Tails Organization is a State 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Corporation and our FEIN is: 90-0182985. We have not applied for the Federal status due to the expense of the application fee which is $750.00. We are allowed to give tax deductions for all donations we receive and we are also a member of Guidestar.

Many organizations that claim they are non-profits simply are not. In addition to checking on Guidestar (which lists both Federal and State 501's), donors can check with the IRS.

Donors are encouraged to check the credentials of any rescue organization before writing that check or sending that donation via PayPal. It is a shame when donors get 'taken for a ride' as this prevents valid non-profits from getting donations as there is only so much to give!
